Has Indo-Pak cricket lost its charm ?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

India Pakistan SeriesImagine 1990’s, a match between India and Pakistan at Feroz Shah Kotla, every ball being cheered, every run being applauded by the spectators, stadium full of crazy cricket fans shouting “INDIA INDIA”. Now, we dont see anyone so crazy about Indo-Pak cricket. Has it lost its charm ?

Is it because India has become much stronger ?
We rarely see Pakistan winning these days. In 1980s, Pakistan were more dominant. Since 1990s, India have had the upper hand. Pakistan cricket has gone too low after the 2003 world cup. This may be because of many greats retiring from International cricket. But the youngsters have not been able to fill their places.

Now people want to see more close games which Pakistan is not able to deliver. In 1984, the Indian team led by Kapil Dev was bowled out for 125 in Sharjah. In reply, India bowled out Imran Khan led Pakistan team for only 87. The most remembered triumph by Indian team against Pakistan. This type of close matches are missing. People want to watch more of India-Australia and India-South Africa. The rivalry between India and Australia has assumed significance because the two are more or else equal powers. The quality of cricket produced when India play Australia is awesome. Will Australia take Pakistan’s place? We don’t play Pakistan so often these days. So Australia is bound to take Pak’s place.

Race to the Benchmark

Race to the Benchmark

Sachin is a great personality in the world of cricket. He is a living legend. He has set some records which everyone wants to break but who will be able to do that ? Undoubtedly no one from India. Ricky Ponting, who is just 18 months younger than sachin is also many miles away from him. He will have to play for 3 more years than Sachin to even come close to him.

Many people think that Sachin will retire after 2011 world cup and then Ponting will have a chance of doing the impossible. But he has not announced his retirement from test cricket.

Ricky is chasing the Batting Benchmarks set by Sachin but he will only finish second in the race. Ricky will play the 2013 Ashes. But hey, has he ever wondered if he will be able to even lift his bat ?

So all you Ponting fans, dont lose hope, 2nd position is not a bad position. Enjoy…….
