Unauthorized sites that might have used your adsense

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Recently visiting my Adsense account and viewing the list of sites authorized to show my ad codes, i founded one more list of site. This list was the list of sites that are unauthorized and are using your ad codes. Actually, looking into the details over it and viewing these sites, i founded out most of these sites are replica of Google’s homepage, some are redirected to bing.com like cc.bingj.com, some opens at yahoo 404 error page, some open as microsofttranslator.com and lastly www.freeproxy.ws and mail.google.com were not opening.

unauthorised sites adsense

list of unauthorised sites in adsense

Now lets look one by one about IP addresses and the truth behind:

  1. Google Homepage Replica’s
On checking the Whois details of the IP’s and domain’s we founded out that they all operates on the same name servers over which Google operates. The question arises why and how are these domain’s reflecting our ad codes when their source is genuine.
  2. Bingj.com, Microsofttranslator.com (Bing Translator), IP’s
Its the same story just like the Google homepage replica. But their is diversification in the domains that land in the end. similarly checking the DNS records for the IP’s we founded that the resulting DNS are same.
  3. Yahoo 404 error pages
IP’s that end up on yahoo 404 error pages are also owned by yahoo as per the DNS record. The last IP (203.104.18.42) in the list reflects that its owned by India Yahoo! Web Services India Pvt Ltd Internet Content Provider.
  4. mail.google.com
I have no idea about this expect that i uses this URL 10-15 times in a day,yet i was unable to open the link. Yes just try these two links http://www.mail.google.com and http://mail.google.com . First i tried the link with www. and i got shocked, Google is down and than after 2-3 tries i removed the www. and tried again, things went fine now. But the question still remains why these sites displayed my ad codes and entered in the authorized list of Adsense.
  5. www.freeproxy.ws
I tried to open this link but the site was down, its a proxy site that i have used a lot of time to access sites during my college days. Their might be a change that someone had opened my site through this proxy. The ads in the frame of proxy site will be treated as ads displayed by the proxy sites itself.

So, have a allowed sites list to protect yourself. You never know when things become nasty for adsense publishers, and prevention is the best practice.

As all these sites are genuine and part of a trusted network, so no need to worry. What i think of these IP’s is that they are used to run various services like gmodules, translate, crawling etc, separate from the Google’s main domain. The data gathered and generated over these IP’s is later on linked to the main domain as a sub-domain, without putting load on the main domain.
